Canning Season

It is canning season again. Each year I work up a little more courage. This year a friend and I canned tomatoes for the first time. They're nice because you don't have to use the pressure caner, which I am completely intimated by...Or maybe I'm intimidated by the canning books scary botulism warnings for things that need a pressure caner.

I also made up a few jams with my mother. I took a Strawberry-Rhubarb Jam recipe my Grandmother gave me and substituted the strawberry for peach. It is the most dreamy color, which isn't coming through as much in these pictures.  This week I plan on making some peach jam with no sugar as part of my effort to cut down on our sugar consumption. It looks pretty easy and what could be better than an all fruit jam?

On the topic of things in jars...Here is a link to "Pie in a Jar." I made a bunch of these up as Christmas stocking stuffers for the family... Very popular with the family, and husband too!
